Purpose
This article explains how Drivers can add log events in compliance with the ELD Mandate using the Encompass® ELD app. From the Dashboard, Drivers access the View Log icon, select Edit Log, and choose the correct date if needed. They can add a new event by entering required details such as duty status, start/end time, location, annotation, and any applicable vehicle or shipment information. Once saved, the event appears in the log and is shown in green on the grid log screen to indicate it was edited. This process ensures accurate and compliant recordkeeping of duty status changes.
When to Use This Article
- A Driver needs to add a missing duty status change to their log for the current or a previous day.
- A Driver needs to record a duty status event that was not automatically captured by the ELD.
Steps to Follow
Tap on the View Log icon from the Encompass ELD Dashboard (or select Edit Log for new customers).
On the Edit Log screen, the Driver will see Log Events for that day. To change the date, tap the arrows or tap the Log Date. To add a new event, tap Add Event at the top.
TIP: If holding the device horizontally and events are not visible, scroll below the grid or rotate the device vertically.
On the Add ELD Event screen, fill in the following fields:
- Status (required) -- Select the appropriate duty status.
- Start Time (required) -- Enter the start time.
- End Time (required) -- Enter the end time.
- Location (required) -- Enter the location where the duty status started.
- Unit Number -- Enter if applicable.
- Trailer Number -- Enter if applicable.
- Shipment Info -- Enter the invoice/manifest number if applicable.
- Ruleset -- Change if needed.
- Distance (mi) -- Enter distance if adding a Driving status.
- Annotation (required) -- Enter the reason why the event is being added.
Tap Save. A success message will appear.
The new event appears in the log. Edited events display in green on the grid log screen.
What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls
- Do not leave the Annotation field blank -- it is required and explains why the event was added for DOT compliance.
- Do not forget to enter the Distance when adding a Driving status event.
- Do not confuse the Edit button (for modifying existing events) with Add Event (for creating new ones).
