Purpose
This article explains how to configure Performance Management Settings in J. J. Keller® Encompass® to define thresholds for RPM, Speed, Braking, Idle Time, and Fuel Economy, and to enable performance reporting for units and employees.
When to Use This Article
- A customer wants to set or adjust performance thresholds (speed, RPM, idle time, hard braking, fuel economy) for their fleet.
- A customer needs to enable or disable unit or employee performance reporting.
- A customer wants to configure how many days of inactivity mark a unit as "Not Utilized."
Steps to Follow
- Go to Settings from the drop-down in the upper right corner.
- Click Company Level Listing in the Company Info box.
- Next to the appropriate company level, click the pencil icon to Edit Rules.
- Scroll to Encompass® ELD Mobile Rules and configure the following settings:
- Max Acceptable Tachometer (RPM) -- Maximum RPM before an alert is generated.
- Max Hard Braking Occurrences per Day -- Maximum hard braking events per day before an alert.
- Max Acceptable Speed -- Maximum speed before an alert is generated.
- Hard Brake Deceleration -- Deceleration rate that defines a hard braking event.
- Days Before Not Utilized -- Days of inactivity before a unit is marked as not utilized.
- Average Idle Time per day of operation -- Maximum idle minutes before an alert.
- Target Fuel Economy -- Goal MPG for units.
- Is Unit Performance Reportable? -- Enables reporting for units.
- Is Employee Performance Reportable? -- Enables reporting for employees.
- Click Save.
What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls
- Do not confuse Driving Start Speed and Driving Stop Time (Hours of Service settings) with Performance Management settings -- they are in the same section but serve different purposes.
- Do not set thresholds too low, as this may generate excessive alerts that reduce their usefulness.
- Do not forget to toggle Is Unit Performance Reportable? on -- performance data will not appear in reports until this is enabled.
Escalation Path
- If performance settings are not applying to specific units, verify the correct company level is selected and the rules are saved. Escalate to an Encompass administrator if needed.
- If performance alerts are not generating despite thresholds being set, confirm the ELD device is reporting data and contact J. J. Keller support at 1-800-327-1342.
