Purpose: Explain how to enable Vehicle Tracking Plus on a device and clarify what features become available after the change. Use this article when customers need Fuel Tax trips, Geofence reporting, or mileage records generated from GPS data.
When to Use It:
• Customer wants to enable Vehicle Tracking Plus on a GPS device
• Customer needs Fuel Tax trips generated from GPS records
• Customer needs Geofence reporting
• Customer asks why mileage records are not available for trips prior to the data plan change
• Customer wants to understand the difference between Vehicle Tracking and Vehicle Tracking Plus
Steps to Follow:
- Confirm the customer wants Vehicle Tracking Plus functionality.
- Advise the customer that mapping features are identical between Vehicle Tracking and Vehicle Tracking Plus.
- Explain that Vehicle Tracking Plus additionally generates:
• Fuel Tax trips
• Geofence reporting - Update the device's Data Plan to Vehicle Tracking Plus using one of the following methods:
- New UI:
• Hover over the device's serial number.
• Click the pencil icon.
• Change the Data Plan to Vehicle Tracking Plus.
• Save the changes. - Classic:
• Navigate to Vehicle Management > Setup > Vehicle Tracking Device List.
• Update the Data Plan to Vehicle Tracking Plus.
• Save the changes.
- New UI:
- Inform the customer that mileage records will only be generated from the date the Data Plan is changed forward.
- Verify the customer understands that historical trips are not retroactively generated.
What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls:
• Do not state that Vehicle Tracking Plus provides different mapping features than Vehicle Tracking.
• Do not expect Fuel Tax trips or Geofence reporting to appear before the Data Plan is changed.
• Do not advise customers that historical mileage records or trips will be generated retroactively.
• Do not forget to save the Data Plan change after updating the device.
