Purpose
This article explains how to view and manage the list of available DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) Inspection Items in the Encompass® system. Users can access this list by navigating to Settings > Vehicles > Maintain DVIR Defect. While Encompass provides a default set of defects, additional items can be added by selecting Add New, entering the Inspection Item Name, ensuring the Show in List? box is checked, and saving the entry. This process allows customization of Inspection Templates to match an organization’s specific needs.
When to Use This Article
- Learn to add custom inspection items to the DVIR defect list.
- Learn how to manage or view the list of available DVIR defects.
- When building a DVIR Template and needs to add new inspection items first.
Steps to Follow
Go to Settings from the dropdown next to your name in the upper right corner.
Click on the Vehicles tab.
Find the Unit Maintenance box and select Maintain DVIR Defect.
Review the existing list of defects. Click Add New to add a new inspection item.
Enter the name of the inspection item, ensure Show in List? is checked, and click Save.
What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls
- Do not uncheck Show in List? unless you intentionally want to hide the inspection item—if unchecked, the item will not be available to add to a template.
- Do not forget that adding a defect here does not automatically add it to existing templates—you must add it to each template separately via Maintain DVIR Templates.
Escalation Path
- If a newly added defect does not appear when building a template, verify Show in List? is checked.
- If the customer cannot access Maintain DVIR Defect, check user roles and permissions before escalating to Encompass support.
