Purpose
This article explains how to view and manage the list of available DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report) Inspection Items in the Encompass® system. Users can access this list by navigating to Settings > Vehicles > Maintain DVIR Defect. While Encompass provides a default set of defects, additional items can be added by selecting Add New, entering the Inspection Item Name, ensuring the Show in List? box is checked, and saving the entry. This process allows customization of Inspection Templates to match an organization’s specific needs.
When to Use This Article
- You need to add a new defect item to the DVIR defect list
- You want to show or hide specific defect items from inspection templates
- You need to customize inspection checklists for your fleet's needs
Steps to Follow
The list of available inspection items (or defects) are found by going to Settings from the dropdown next to your name, in the upper right corner.
When in Settings, click on the Vehicles tab.
Find the Unit Maintenance box and select Maintain DVIR Defect.
Encompass already has a list of defects, but additional items can be added to it. Click Add New to add a new defect.
Enter the name of the inspection item. Make sure that Show in List? is checked—if it is unchecked, it will not be an available inspection item to add to a template. Click Save.
What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls
- Do not forget to enable "Show in List" for new defects — they will not appear in inspection templates if this is unchecked
- Do not delete default defects unless you are certain they are not needed — consider unchecking "Show in List" instead to hide them while preserving the record
- Do not add duplicate defect names — check the existing list before creating a new item
Escalation Path
