Purpose
This article provides a comprehensive training checklist for drivers getting started with Encompass ELD. It covers preparation, start-of-day tasks, common tasks throughout the day, end-of-day tasks, and additional training materials and videos.
When to Use This Article
- A new driver is being onboarded to use Encompass ELD.
- An administrator needs a structured training outline for driver orientation.
- A driver needs a refresher on the daily ELD workflow from start to finish.
Steps to Follow
Preparing to Get Started
- Ensure the correct equipment is available (User Guide)
- Download the Encompass ELD application to the mobile device (User Guide - contains instructions for both Android and iOS)
- Receive Encompass ELD Application Fleet ID, Username, and Password from your Companies Encompass Administrator
Start of the Day
- Turn on the mobile device
- Check Bluetooth settings on the device
- Identify and press the Bluetooth Pairing Button on the ELD. Find the gray button next to the LED indicator lights; press and hold until the blue light flashes, then release. (Models: Gen 2 / 2.5 Only)
- Log into Encompass ELD (User Guide)
- Discover and activate the ELD (User Guide (Android) | User Guide (Apple)
- Enter Trailer and Shipment Information (User Guide)
- Verify ELD is Online, Location, and User (User Guide)
- Verify Location and User on the Duty Status Bar (User Guide)
- Complete the Pre-Trip Inspection (User Guide (Android) | (Use Guide (Apple)
Note: Do not use the Encompass ELD application while the vehicle is in motion. If the driver logs in while the vehicle is moving, an alert will display: "Movement is currently detected. Screen will remain locked until movement has ceased and history is read." Once stopped, the driver will be prompted to enter trip information.

What Not to Do / Common Pitfalls
- Do not skip the Bluetooth pairing step. The ELD will not connect if the pairing button is not pressed until the blue light flashes.
- Do not use the ELD app while the vehicle is in motion. The screen will lock until movement ceases.
- Do not forget to certify and submit logs at the end of each day.
- Do not neglect to check for and claim unassigned events before logging out.
- Ensure the driver always has the Roadside Inspection Card, ELD Driver Guide, and Contact Support wallet card in the vehicle.
Escalation Path
- If a driver does not receive their Activation Code, Username, or Password, contact the Encompass Administrator.
- If the ELD hardware does not pair or connect, verify Bluetooth settings and hardware status. Escalate to Encompass ELD support if unresolved.
