To use the MVR Scoring feature in Encompass to its fullest potential, ensure the set up of thresholds and scoring items for this process has been completed. See MVR Scoring Setup for more information.
What is a MVR?
A Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) is a state-issued document that provides a history of a person’s driving record, including all traffic violations and police-reported collisions. This record is crucial for employers who need to assess the risk associated with a driver’s behavior on the road.
Understanding MVR Scoring
MVR Scoring is a system organizations can use to evaluate the driving records of individuals, particularly those who drive as part of their job duties. The purpose of MVR Scoring is to identify drivers who may pose a higher risk due to their driving history, which includes traffic violations, accidents, and other driving-related incidents.
Why is MVR Scoring Important?
MVR Scoring can be an essential component of a comprehensive fleet safety program. It helps organizations:
- Ensure that all drivers have a valid and appropriate license.
- Identify patterns of unsafe driving behavior.
- Determine if a driver meets the company’s safety standards.
- Take necessary actions to coach or train drivers to improve their driving habits.
By implementing a robust MVR Scoring system, companies can promote safer driving practices, reduce the likelihood of accidents, and protect their assets and reputation.
How Does MVR Scoring Work?
Organizations typically use a point system to score/"grade" each driver’s MVR. Points are assigned based on the severity and frequency of accidents and violations over a certain period. The total points determine the driver’s risk profile, which can range from low to high risk. Based on the risk level, the organization can take appropriate corrective actions, such as additional training or even suspension of driving privileges.
Add a New Scorecard
To add a MVR scorecard to a driver you have received a MVR for, first go to Drivers > Driver Qualification.
Select the driver in question to open their DQ file.
Scroll to the bottom of the page; click Add New in the MVR Scoring section.
Enter the date of the MVR. The review date will auto-populate with the current date. Next, enter the number of violations found on the MVR into the respective fields on the scorecard in Encompass. The points will begin to total up in the Score column for each violation committed. In the bottom left of the screen, the running total will appear, along with the Rating "color". Remember that these thresholds are determined by you during MVR Scoring setup. In this case, the indicated violations for this driver have received 25 points, but the driver is still in a "low risk"/"green" rating because of the thresholds initially set.
When you are finished, click Save.
Once saved, the score and rating will appear in the MVR Scoring section of the driver's DQ file page.
